Plus de détails

(Scene opens with Benson talking to a doctor in the hospital)

Dr. Mehta
Best estimate, she's about 30 weeks along, came in alone, slight bleeding with contractions at 20-minute intervals.

Benson
She say who the father is?

Dr. Mehta
No. This isn't the first time she's been pregnant. Scarring suggests she's delivered before.

Benson
You find her parents?

Dr. Mehta
Refuses to tell us where they are. Only says her first name is Melanie and she's 12 1/2 years old.

Benson
A.C.S. will arrange for foster care after you release her.

Dr. Mehta
She's not going anywhere until after the baby's born. Next 10 weeks, this is home.
(Walks away)

Benson
(Walks into the hospital room where Melanie is talking with a nurse; Benson acknowledges the nurse)
Hey.
(turns to the bed)
Melanie? I'm Olivia. I'm a police officer. Can I talk to you for a minute?

(Melanie looks at Benson and says nothing)

Benson
The doctor said that you had another baby before. Is that right?

Melanie Kramer
(Nods slowly and speaks softly)
He died. My mom says he's with God now.

Benson
(nods)
Well it's good that you came to a hospital. Was that your idea?

(Melanie again looks at Benson and refuses to say anything)

Benson
Was it your mom's?

(Melanie angrily turns her head and looks away)

Benson
Well I'm glad your mom thought of that. She must love you very much. If you tell me where you live, I can go get her.

Melanie Kramer
I'm not supposed to tell.

Benson
Melanie...If you were my daughter, I'd want to be right here with you.

(Melanie is quiet, but you can tell she is thinking)

Benson
(Hands her a pen and a notepad)
Will you write down your address for me?

(Melanie takes the notepad and starts writing her address on it)

Benson
You know if you want, I can also try to find the father of your baby. Can you tell me his name?

Melanie Kramer
Abraham.

Benson
And who's Abraham?

Melanie Kramer
(Hands the notepad back to Benson)
He's my husband.

(Cut to Benson in front of Abraham's building. She is talking to somebody on the phone - presumably Stabler)

Benson
Well, the guy should be home. She said that he doesn't work.
(A squad car approaches)
Okay they're here. I'll see you in ten. Bye.
(Hangs up the phone)

Officer Green
(Points to a window in the building)
Somebody's watching.
(The curtains in the window move back into place)

Benson
My partner's on his way. Keep you're eye out.
(Climbs the stairs and pounds on the door; a little boy opens the door)

Benson
Hello.
(Flashes her badge)
Hey, I'm a police officer. Is your mom or dad home?

(The boy shakes his head; a group of young children are gathered behind him)

Benson
Are all you guys here by yourself?

(Abraham walks to the door)

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Hey kids.
(Walks to the little boy and puts his hands on his shoulders)
It's okay Samuel, go on in and play.
(Samuel leaves and Abraham looks at Benson)
Can I help you?

Benson Detective Benson, Special Victims Unit. Are you Abraham?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff Why?

Benson Sir, I'd like to ask you to step outside, please.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff No, I'm sorry, I can't.

Benson Things'll be a lot easier for you if you step outside.

(Abraham slams the door in Benson's face)

Benson Son of a bitch.
(Takes her radio out and starts talking)
SVU, portable to central. I need a couple of units outside of 104 West 120th Street. The suspect is inside. I need to secure all exits.

Officer Zermeño
How many kids in there?

Benson
At least four. Go around the back —

(Shots are fired, breaking the back window of the squad car)

Benson
(Benson and the other two cops take cover behind a car - she radios for help)
1013! 1013! Shots fired! Shots fired at police!

Opening Credits

(Scene opens with an armored unit pointing their guns at the building)

Duty Captain Guards
(pointing at a map of the building)
We think the hostages are in the living room, here. Any idea how many kids?

Benson
I saw at least four.

Stabler
We got a fix on a perp?

Duty Captain Guards
No, but we got all the exits covered. He's not getting out.

(More shots are fired)

Officer on Radio
Multiple shots fired inside.

Duty Captain Guards
(on radio)
Entry team, go! Entry team, go!

(The team uses a battering ram to gain entry into the building)

Officer on Radio
Call EMS. Get EMS here now!

(Duty Captain Guards, Benson, Stabler, Munch, and Fin run towards the building, an officer stumbles out of the building - he looks really upset)

Officer Zermeño
Come here! Come here somebody!

Duty Captain Guards
Zermeño. Where's the perp?

Officer Zermeño
He's gone!

Benson
What happened?

Officer Zermeño
They're dead. They're all dead.

(Stabler, Benson, Munch, and Fin all walk slowly into the building. The lights are all out, so they all turn their flashlights on. As they look around, they see lit candles, writing all over the walls, there is a crib and a playpen, bunk beds, a child's drawing on the wall, and a bible on a table. They look down and see the bodies of the children on the floor. The camera pans to show a blood-stained stuffed rabbit on the floor and a pacifier lying next to a blood stain. Fin and Munch can't bear to look anymore and turn away. Benson has tears in her eyes and she points her flashlight at a large painting of Abraham on the wall. Benson looks over and sees the body of the boy who answered the door lying on the floor in the next room. She walks over and kneels down next to the body.)

SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT SQUADROOM
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27

(The whole room is filled with detectives and police officers - Cragen is briefing them)

Cragen
CSU found an old tunnel under the house leading to a vacant building on the next block. So far, that's where the trail ends. Abraham Ophion has no known criminal record, though it is likely a fake name. We do know eight years ago, he tried to obtain tax-exempt status for his group the Church of Wisdom and Sight. That and the way they lived and the events surrounding their deaths indicate we may be dealing with a cult. Other members may have escaped through the tunnel. Our priority now is to find them and to identify the victims. In addition, I want to make sure you're all taking care of yourselves. The department is providing psych support, and you're all to sit down and talk to one of these people sooner rather than later. It is not optional.
(Looks at Benson and Stabler).
None of you are exempt from what I've just said.

Stabler
Captain? We can always get our heads shrunk after this case is over.

Cragen.
Get it done, or you're off the case.
(Walks away)

Dr. Huang
I can sit down with each of you right now.

Stabler
Fine. Let's get it over with.

(Cut to Dr. Huang and Stabler talking in the room above the squad room)

Dr. Huang
What do you most remember seeing after you entered the house?

Stabler
Dead bodies.

Dr. Huang
Anything specific about them?

Stabler
A bunch of dead bodies. Seen plenty.

Dr. Huang
So this was no different than any other case.

Stabler
What do you want me to say? That it was terrible? Fine...It was terrible...But one way or another...They all are.

Dr. Huang
And you think this is a big waste of your time.

(The scene switches to Munch and Dr. Huang talking)

Munch
Hell, no, I think we should sit around all day and chat about our feelings.

Dr. Huang
Well, what do you want to talk about?

Munch
Well, it doesn't really matter. We could all talk till we're blue in the face. It's not gonna change the fact that the human race is ever-evolving and will always come up with elaborate, repulsive, and depraved ways to kill each other.

Dr. Huang
And that's really the hard part for you, isn't it?

Munch
What?

Dr. Huang
That you can still be repulsed. As cynical as you try to be, you can still be sickened.

(Munch is speechless)

Dr. Huang
How are you feeling now?

(The scene switches to Dr. Huang and Benson talking)

Benson
I don't know.

Dr. Huang
This was an extremely traumatic event, Liv. The grief that you're feeling is completely natural.

Benson
I know that.

Dr. Huang
But you feel like you shouldn't be feeling anything. Is that how you feel?

(Benson sighs)

Dr. Huang
Tell me what you did last night after you went home.

(Scene switches to Dr. Huang talking with Fin)

Fin
I ate dinner, called my kid.

Dr. Huang
You're son, right. Do you talk to him often?

Fin
Not as much as I should. I just wanted to call to say hey.

Dr. Huang
Did you tell him about the case?

Fin
Nobody needs that in their head.

Dr. Huang
You got it in your head. What does that mean to you?

Fin
It means nobody's safe.

Dr. Huang
And that makes you feel — helpless?

(Scene switches back to Dr. Huang talking with Stabler)

Stabler
Not at all...Look I got my own kids and eventually you realize that you can't always protect them.

Dr. Huang
What made you think about your own children?

Stabler
Why do you think? The victims were kids.

Dr. Huang
Lots of victims are children. You think about your own family on every case?

Stabler
It's not...No - I don't. It's - Look...the one girl was wearing a teddy bear shirt that my daughter...Whatever. It's done. You move on.

(Scene switches to Dr. Huang and Benson talking again)

Benson
I'm afraid that - I won't be able to handle it.

Dr. Huang
But you are. By acknowledging that it affects you. That's the way you handle something traumatic.

Benson
Well, I guess the real problem is that I'm afraid that - that it's not working.
(starts to cry)

(Cut to Stabler and Fin looking at the board full of pictures of the crime scene)

Stabler
CSU collected these names inside the house from paycheck stubs in the mail. They're all female but the names on the socials are all fake.

Munch
One of these women has to come forward. Their kids are lying unclaimed in that morgue.

(Benson walks in holding a copy of Abraham's mug shot in her hand)

Benson
I got Abraham's real ID.
(Sticks the mug shot on the board)
His name is Eugene Hoff.

Munch
How'd you get it?

Benson
CSU printed all of the common surfaces in the house. His prints hit. Eugene Hoff, four arrests in the 80's - for check forgery and counterfeiting, identity theft, and various frauds.

Stabler
He's no religious guru. He's a con man.

Benson
If this whole cult thing is nothing more than a scam, why did he kill only the kids? Where are their parents?

(Fin walks in and puts on his jacket)

Munch
Where are you going?

Fin
I'm going home.

Stabler
What are you kidding me? They're making you take leave?

Fin
No, I'm taking it myself. Sometimes you just gotta step back.

Munch
Come on. I'll walk out with you.

(Fin and Munch walk out; Stabler goes back to reading a file)

Stabler
Our guy's last place of employment was a Pentecostal church. It's a place to start.
(Stabler notices that Benson is worried about something)
What?

Benson
They're gonna send me home.

Stabler
No, they're not.

Benson
Yeah. I was way too emotional. I couldn't hold it together.

(Cragen pokes his head out the door)

Cragen
Elliot, can you step in here?

(Elliot walks into Cragen's office where Dr. Huang is waiting; Cragen closes the door behind him)

Cragen
I'm referring you to psych services.

Stabler
I just talked to them.

Cragen
We've determined you require something ongoing.

Stabler
(Turns to Dr. Huang)
What do you want me to do? Do you want me to cry? Is that it?

Dr. Huang
If you won't take care of yourself, you have to allow us to —

Stabler
(yelling)
If you stayed out of my head and let me do my job, there wouldn't be a problem.

Cragen
You're out sick until psych says you can return.

(Stabler turns away from Dr. Huang and looks at Cragen, speechless)

Cragen
A week at most. Take it.

(Stabler turns to walk out of Cragen's office)

Cragen
And you don't need to be carrying a gun around right now.

(Stabler walks back and puts his gun on Cragen's desk before walking out)
(Benson sees Stabler walk out of Cragen's office and senses that something is wrong. Stabler looks at her, grabs his coat and walks off without saying a word)

Benson
Elliot...

(Cragen pokes his head out of his office again)

Cragen
Detective Benson, you're with Munch.

Benson
(stands up to protest)
Captain...

Cragen
Let him go.

(Cragen turns and walks into his office, closing the door behind him)

(Scene opens with Benson and Munch in the squad room; Benson is on the phone)

Munch
Any word on Melanie?

Benson
She's undergoing minor surgery to stop premature labor. We can't talk to her for a few hours.

Munch
How about Elliot?

Benson
He's not answering his cell phone.
(hangs up the phone and walks over to the board and stares at the pictures taped to it)

Munch
Found some more info on the church where Abraham worked — Christian Tabernacle of Grace. Pretty mainstream.

Benson
Abraham preaches anything that'll make him money. It's probably just another con.
(Benson walks off and Munch follows her)

(Cut to Munch and Benson talking to Reverend Tucker at the church)

Reverend Tucker
Eugene signed up for our Bible study fellowship when he joined the church. After a couple of months, he asked for a more active role and I made him director of faith ministries.

Munch
You must have been pretty impressed with him to give him a job.

Reverend Tucker
I admit. I was fooled. Eugene's discussion groups had nearly 100 members. He was very well-liked.

Benson
So what happened to change that?

Reverend Tucker
The more popular he got, the more bizarre he became. He preached that the serpent was Christ.

Benson
Explains his tattoo. And people actually bought this?

Reverend Tucker
Ten families left the parish when I fired him.

Benson
(Shows the Reverend a picture of Melanie)
She one of his followers?

Reverend Tucker
I don't recognize her. But I know one family who left Eugene's group after a few years. They may be able to tell you more.

APARTMENT OF
CARL AND SIMONE BUCHMAN
QUEENS, NEW YORK
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27

Simone Buchman
Abraham was magnetic. It was like he knew you. He could be talking to a roomful of people and it was like you were the only person there.

Carl Buchman
But things changed. He became paranoid. He kept telling us that we were going to be punished for our beliefs. That the government was going to kill us and we had to be ready to defend ourselves.

Munch
Meaning what?

Simone Buchman
Collecting weapons. Trips to the firing range. Storing food.

Carl Buchman
He started separating the married couples. He said you couldn't be soldiers of God if you were slaves to flesh. The men slept on one floor and the women always slept on Abraham's floor. Eventually, he drove most of the men away.

Benson
What about the children?

Carl Buchman
(Looks at his wife, then turns to his daughter)
Janey, go and do your homework.
(waits until Janey is out of the room and turns back to Benson and Munch)
Abraham always talked about the purity and goodness of children. But, really, he only paid attention to the girls. One night, I caught him in Janey's room. She was four. He was down to his shorts.

Simone Buchman
She told us that he never touched her. But we left that night. Looking back, I can't believe that we got caught up in this.

Carl Buchman
Look, we know how crazy he is now. But back then, he was convincing.
(walks over to a drawer and grabs a videotape — he walks back and gives it to Benson)
See for yourself.

(Cut to the Cragen, Benson, and Dr. Huang watching the videotape - Abraham is preaching on it)

Abraham /Eugene Hoff (on video)
Are you willing to prove your obedience? Because the time will come, and you will be tested. When the soldiers of Satan come for you, when they demand your allegiance and threaten to murder you...and your children and destroy all we have...
(Holds the head of one of his followers in his hands and looks her in the eyes)
Will you make that sacrifice in the name of God?
(She nods)
Yes?
(She nods again)
Yes.
(He kisses her forehead)

Cragen
Guess that makes us the soldiers of Satan.
(sarcastically)
This guy isn't too paranoid.

Dr. Huang
He wants his followers to be. It's part of the manipulation. Instilling the idea of being persecuted creates solidarity and loyalty.

Benson
Yeah, loyal enough to allow him to rape their daughters.
(the phone rings and Benson reaches to answer it)
Benson.

Dr. Huang
A lot of cult leaders were known to have sexual relations with the children in their groups. David Koresh had a ten-year-old bride. The leader of the Nuwaubian cult was convicted of molesting 14 children.

Benson
Hold on one second.
(puts the caller on hold)
Captain, you're gonna want to take this. She says she'll only speak to the person in charge.

Cragen
About what?

Benson
The victims. Wants to know if one of them was a nine-year-old boy with brown hair with a scar on his left leg.

Cragen
Trace it.
(walks back to his office)

Dr. Huang
(picks up the phone and dials out)
Agent Huang. FBI number 2317616. I need a trace on this line.

(Benson puts the phone on speaker to record the conversation)

Cragen
Captain Cragen.

Woman on the phone
I want to know about the children who died.

Cragen
What's your name?

Woman on the phone
I can't tell you.

Cragen
Okay. Okay, you don't have to.

Woman on the phone
Just tell me if one of them was a boy. Nine years-old, brown eyes, brown hair.

Cragen
We can arrange for you to see all the bodies. That way you would be absolutely sure.

Woman on the phone
Please, tell me.

Cragen
M'am. You are not in any trouble. We can —

(phone cuts off)
(Cragen hangs up the phone and rushes back into the squad room)
Did we get it?

Dr. Huang
Pay phone at St. Catherine's hospital.

Benson
Where Melanie is. It's gotta be the mother.

(Cut to the hospital - Benson closes the curtain to give Melanie and herself some privacy)

Melanie Kramer
I'm not talking to you!

Benson
Melanie, I know that you think that I want to hurt you and your family, but that is not true.

Melanie Kramer
Just go away!

Benson
Your mother was asking about a little boy. Is that your little brother? Is that Samuel?

(Melanie tries to look at a magazine, but Benson takes it away)

Benson
Melanie, do you know what happened the night that you came to the hospital?

Melanie Kramer
I'm not listening!

Benson
Something terrible. Abraham is a liar. He killed your little brother. He killed your friends! He might kill your mom. Now, I can protect her. But I need you to tell me where she is.

Melanie Kramer
(starts to cry)
Mom said Abraham was taking them to a safe place.

(Cut to the police raiding the hiding place of the cult)

Clerk
Hey, you can't do this! This is a civil rights violation!

Officer Robbins
Relax.

Benson
(points to a back room)
Back here.

Clerk
They have the right to believe in whatever they want!

Benson
(Benson pushes back the curtain blocking the back room to reveal a group of women sitting in a circle, holding hands)
Which one of you is Melanie's mother? Where's Abraham?

Woman #1
As if you don't know.

Benson
Tell me where he is!

(an officer walks over and forces the woman to her feet and cuffs her)

Woman #1
You have our husband in your torture rooms!
(yelling)
You are a slave to the devil! Murderer!

Officer Zermeño
Detective Benson, check it out.

(Benson walks over and sees a wooden crate full of weapons)

Officer Zermeño
Got their own little Waco down here.

(Cut to the detectives in the squad room attempting to talk with the women)

Munch
I'm gonna try this one more time. May I have your name, please, as well as any aliases?

(The woman remains silent and stares straight ahead)

Munch
I hereby christen you Jane Doe Number Three.

Benson
(walks over to Dr. Huang)
Nobody's carrying ID and nobody's giving up Abraham's location. And they're all apparently married to him.

Dr. Huang
They don't know where he is. That's why they're so frightened. The shepherd has abandoned his flock. And they believe that we killed their children.

Benson
But one of these women is Melanie's mother, and she's already strayed from the flock by calling us. I just don't know which one it is.

Dr. Huang
She's not gonna say with the others around. We have to interview them separately. Compare their voices to the recorded phone call.

Munch
We have their mug shots. Melanie's cooperating. Let her pick her mom out. Hell of a lot easier than trying to pry information out of these people.

Benson
(reads a message handed to her)
Okay. I'll hit the hospital, you hit the morgue. Warner's got something.
(hands the message to Munch)

(Cut to Munch in the morgue)

M.E. Warner
Believe me, there is nothing I want better than to help you put a needle in your guy's arm, but this isn't good.

Munch
How could it possibly be worse?

M.E. Warner
He didn't kill them. This is the oldest victim. I'm guessing around 20. Her injuries appear self-inflicted.

Munch
It could be a set-up.

M.E. Warner
(lifting the dead girl's arm)
And her right hand is covered with gunshot residue. CSU found the murder weapon. Her prints are the only ones on it.

Munch
Abraham had total control over all these kids. He orchestrated all of this.

M.E. Warner
I'm just telling you what the forensics prove. The DNA tells a different story.
(walks over and points to a body)
I'm estimating this girl around 16. (points to another body)
This boy, around two. She's his mother.

Munch
And I'll bet Abraham's his father.

M.E. Warner
All of the victims have the same father, except the shooter.

Munch
Abraham, father of many, had children with his own children. Now we know why.

M.E. Warner
Why what?

Munch
Abraham's nothing more than an incestuous pedophile. You kill the victims, nobody can testify against you.

M.E. Warner
There's still one victim left. The twelve-year-old in the hospital who's having his baby.

(Cut to Benson in the hospital, she walks into the Melanie's room to find her bed empty)

Benson
Melanie?
(walks to the front desk)
Excuse me. I'm looking for Melanie Ophion. Where is she?

Nurse
I just got on. They may have moved her. Let me check.

Benson
(Sees Melanie's roommate being wheeled back to her room)
Hey wait, uh, have you seen your roommate?

Pregnant Teenager
Melanie?

Benson
Yeah.

Pregnant Teenager

Earlier today, but her dad already took her home.
(The nurse wheels her away)

(Cut to Benson walking into the two-way mirror room; Dr. Huang is watching as Cragen interrogates a woman)

Dr. Huang
No luck finding Melanie?

Benson
Hospital security cameras recorded her walking out with Abraham. She didn't look like she was being forced.

Dr. Huang
She wasn't. This cult is all she knows. She went with Abraham because she wanted to.

Benson
You find her mother?

Dr. Huang
(Looks through the two-way mirror at the woman Cragen is interrogating)
This woman says that her name is Sarah. She won't admit to anything, but listen to her voice.
(turns on the speaker to the room)

Cragen
You're willing to go to jail for this guy's crimes?

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
I'm willing to make a sacrifice, in the name of God the Father.

(Huang turns the speaker off and plays the recording of the phone call made earlier by the woman asking about her son)

Sarah/Cindy Kramer (recording)
Just tell me if one of them was a boy...Nine years old, brown eyes, brown hair...

Benson
(realizes that Sarah is the woman from the recording)
That's all I needed to hear.
(walks into the interrogation room)

Cragen
Detective Benson, this is Sarah. We've been talking about numbers.
(hands a piece of paper to Benson)
We found this in her pocket.

Benson
(takes the piece of paper and looks at it)
What does it mean?

Cragen
She hasn't shared that.

Benson
(takes a long, hard look at Sarah)
Sarah was Abraham's wife in the Bible, right?
(Sarah says nothing)
From what I recall, Sarah whored out her servant to her husband so that he could have a child. Is that why you let Abraham have sex with your daughter? Of course, your Abraham is different because he likes to have children with his own children.

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
Melanie is not his daughter!

Cragen
And we're supposed to believe you now because you've been so forthcoming?

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
Her father abandoned us when she was a baby. Abraham took care of us.

Benson
Abraham raped your daughter!

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
I don't expect you to understand!

Benson
Don't try to tell me for a minute that you believe this is right because I know you don't. You took Melanie to the hospital. You called us to see if Abraham had murdered your son!

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
I didn't —

Benson
No, your son was shot. Along with all these other children!
(shows her pictures of her son and the other dead children; Sarah looks away and gets up - Benson follows her)
Now, those women out there might be brainwashed, but your not. You know exactly what he is - a murderer and a child rapist.

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
That's not true!

Benson
You knew who he was and you let this happen! You let all those children die!

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
It was God's will!

Benson
(yelling)
No, Sarah, it was your will! You can blame God, and you can blame Abraham, but we all know the truth - you did this! You sat there and you watched as a man raped one of your children and then murdered the other! You might as well have killed yourself!!!!!

Cragen
Olivia!

Benson
He has one of your children. And he has your unborn grandchild.

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
This is a test.
(shakes her head)
I won't be tempted.

(Benson gives Sarah/Cindy Kramer a disgusted look walks out of the room, slamming the door behind her)

(Cut to Benson sitting in the squad room and holding a picture of Abraham)

Munch
(walks in carrying a piece of paper)
Captain, those numbers Sarah was carrying around with her - bank accounts.

Cragen
How'd you figure that out?

Munch
(shows Cragen the paper)
Forensic accountant did. Sequence of 10 numbers all starting with four identical digits. Same branch of the same bank.

Cragen
Whose bank accounts?

Munch
All different names, all closed yesterday. Somebody walked away with 600 thou.

Benson
(looking distant and a little tear- eyed)
Abraham.

Cragen
Sarah must have closed those accounts and given the money to Abraham before we got her.

Munch
You don't get that kind of money by passing the hat. Accountant says that most of the deposits were payroll checks from large corporations. Easier to counterfeit because it takes longer for the companies to catch on.

Cragen
Abe has fallen back on his old career. We thinking it's a coincidence he does all of his bogus banking in one place?

Benson
No. He must have had an inside guy.

Cragen
No...Make him come out.

NEW YORK SAVINGS BANK
609 WEST 112TH STREET
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28

(Scene opens with Benson and Munch walking towards a
banker's desk; he is on the phone with his significant other)

Reggie
I told you I'd take you some place special. I don't know, we could go to Tampa, stay with —
(Munch pushes the hang up button)
Excuse me, who do you think you are?

(Benson flashes her badge)

Munch
Is your employee number 419686, Reg?

Reggie
(hangs up the phone)
Uh, what exactly is this regarding?

Munch
Your creative banking activity. Setting up bogus accounts for your pal, Abraham. Cashing his phony checks and taking a cut for yourself.

Benson
(points to Reg's boss's office)
Now, your boss is on the phone with the FBI, who I'm sure would love to have a little chat with you.

Reggie
Oh, my god.

Munch
God's not gonna help you, Reg. He doesn't like fraud committed in his name.

Reggie
I want a lawyer.

Benson
Oh, you're gonna need one. You're screwed.

Munch
But I bet if you help us find Abraham, it would look very good for you.

Reggie
He's coming in this afternoon. There's one more account — It's got more money than the rest combined.

(Cut to Benson sitting in the car outside the bank)

Cragen (over the radio)
All units be advised. No one is to approach the subject until the girl is in custody.

Benson
(Benson sees Abraham in her sideview mirror; she calls the sighting in on the radio)
I got a visual on the subject. Subject is walking east toward the bank on the south side of the street. Got a baseball hat, gray pants, and a white shirt. The girl is not with him. I repeat — the girl is not with him. He's entering the bank now.

(camera switches to inside the bank where Cragen and Munch are undercover)

Munch
I'm counting on you Reggie, so don't screw this up. You're gonna have to slip the GPS tracker in with the money.

Reggie
(looking very nervous)
He's here.

Munch
Take a few deep breaths, relax, and just pretend you're embezzling thousands of dollars, like it's any other day.

Reggie
Thank you for banking with us, sir.
(Munch walks away from the window)
Yes, Mr. Smith. What can I do for you today?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
I wanna close my account.

Munch
Subject made contact.
(Benson listens over the radio)
Abe doesn't look too happy. What the hell is Reggie saying?

Reggie
It bounced, and I just don't wanna —

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Don't mess this up.

Munch
We got a problem. Reggie sucks at this. He's making Abraham suspicious.
(Benson gets out of the car and gets ready to go in)
He knows something's up. I think this is blown.
(Benson rushes across the street to the bank)

(Abraham starts to walk away from the counter, Cragen pulls his gun and points it at him)

Cragen
Police! Don't move! Don't be stupid, Abraham!

Munch
(pulls his gun on Abraham)
You got no place to go, Abe. Put your hands where I can see them.

Cragen
Get down on the floor. Get down on the floor, now!

(Abraham turns to the detectives and pulls a knife — just as Benson comes racing in with her gun drawn)

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
(puts the knife to his throat and yells)
Into thy hands I commend my spirit!!!

(Benson runs and tackles him; another cop helps her cuff him and bring him to his feet)

Benson
It's over now. You tell me, where's Melanie?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Safe with her Father now. All nations rightly give him praise.

(Cut to Benson walking into the interrogation room where Abraham is sitting at the table.
There is a bandage on his neck)

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
You've been out there a long time.

Benson
Where's Melanie?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
I already told you.

Benson
You said that she's with our Father. Does that mean she's dead?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Melanie will enjoy everlasting life as will all who believe.

Benson
Believe in you.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
(shakes his head)
No, I'm just the messenger.

Benson
What message are you sending by raping and murdering children?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
I killed no one.

Benson
So, Melanie's alive.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
It's interesting that you're in here with me alone. Do you like putting yourself in dangerous situations?

Benson
You consider yourself dangerous?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
No. But you don't know that. I wonder what attracts you to such a dangerous job. What makes you do it.

Benson
Rapists and pedophiles like you.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
So it's not just about arresting criminals. It's about those specific criminals. You're drawn to this. Why? Were you raped?

Benson
Tell me where Melanie is.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
How can you stand it? How can you invite this depravity into your mind, your body, your soul? It will kill you. Every horror, every torment afflicts your body. Like a cancer. It's devouring your, and you can't see it. Open your eyes.

Benson
You know, I just thought that you were just another con artist. Seeking out people who were starved for anything that would give them meaning in their life. They're easy marks. You talk about God, the apocalypse and they give you all their money. But you are much more pathetic than that. You actually believe your own hype. You've conned yourself.
(gets up and walks into the viewing room)
This guy's not gonna tell us anything.

ADA Casey Novak
Then we have a problem. Our best shot at getting an indictment was Melanie's testimony. Without her, I can't convert the complaint.

Cragen
His sixteen-year-old daughter and their two-year-old son are lying in that morgue. As soon as Abraham's DNA comes back, we got him on statutory rape and incest.

Geoffrey Downs
Not unless you've got a birth certificate that supports that theory.

Cragen
Don't need a birth certificate if we've got his chromosomes.

Geoffrey Downs
First, I would like you to prove my client acknowledged the woman was his biological daughter.

Benson
She wasn't a woman. She was fifteen when she got pregnant.

Geoffrey Downs
That's your M.E.'s estimation. But no judge would take a guess as proof of age. So...no statutory rape, no incest, and your murderer killed herself. I guess we're all ready to go home now.
(walks out of the room)

Cragen
I don't like that look, Casey.

ADA Casey Novak
I don't like that he's right.

(Novak starts walking towards Cragen's office — Cragen and Benson follow her)

Benson
We have seven victims. Charge Abraham with murder. Charge him with conspiracy to commit murder.

ADA Casey Novak
There's no point! All the forensics acquit him. The gunshot residue was only on the oldest victim's hands.

Cragen
Charles Manson wasn't present for the Tate murders, but they still convicted him for killing them.

ADA Casey Novak
Because members of his cult testified that Manson ordered it. Can you flip any of Abraham's followers?

Benson
No. Melanie's mother was our best shot, and she just began a hunger strike protesting our persecution of her religion.

ADA Casey Novak
Well, then, Melanie's our only chance. If she testifies that Abraham orchestrated this, we can get him on the rape and the murders.

Benson
How long can we keep him in custody?

ADA Casey Novak
Check fraud will keep him tonight, but he'll be out on bail tomorrow afternoon, unless I get something new.

Cragen
We'll put a detail on him the minute he leaves that courthouse.

Munch
(walks into Cragen's office holding a file)
That account that Abraham tried to close out today, had over a million dollars in it. Under the name and social of
John Kramer, Englewood, New Jersey.

Cragen
Another alias Abraham used?

Munch
This time the guy is real, only missing. He vanished with his wife and daughter about ten years ago. Daughter was only 2 at the time. She'd be around 12 now. Named Melanie.

(Benson looks at Cragen with a stunned expression on her face)

Cragen
Who reported them missing?

Munch
Kramer's parents, now deceased. Missing persons' database list the contacts as Detective Stu Mackenzie, Englewood PD.

Cragen
Find out what he remembers.

(Cut to a close-up of a picture of John Kramer, "Sarah", and Melanie as a baby)

Benson
The wife's name was Cindy?

Detective Stu Mackenzie
Yeah, she didn't have any family. Husband's family died hoping we'd find them alive. Always figured this case was some weird cult thing.

Munch
What made you think of that?

Detective Stu Mackenzie
Well, Kramer's parents knew he got in with this church group. Was real secretive about it. Donated his trust fund to the cause.

Benson
(shows the detective a picture of Abraham)

Detective Stu Mackenzie
Uh, nope. But Kramer's group was totally off the grid. No known address, no phone, no utilities, no jobs. Only contact with the parents was a letter demanding money in his daughter's trust fund.

Munch
How much is that worth?

Detective Stu Mackenzie
Mmm...About two mil, available when she turns 21 or has a baby, whichever comes first.

Benson
(turns to Munch)
Explains Abraham's reason for keeping Melanie alive.

Munch
At least until she delivers.

Benson
(turns back to Detective Mackenzie)
Where does Kramer's trail end?

Detective Stu Mackenzie
(takes a copy of a receipt from his file and hands it to Benson)
Last known activity was charging up some construction supplies on a credit card his mom paid for.

Munch
(reading the receipt)
Severino Building Supply. Three grand in drywall and tiles, ten years ago. You know, neighbors said something about middle-of-the-night construction going on at Abraham's place around that time.

Benson
(shakes her head)
We searched that place top to bottom.

Munch
Didn't check the walls.

CHURCH OF WISDOM AND SIGHT
104 WEST 120TH STREET
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29

(Cut to the detectives walking through the house with a CSU technician)

CSU Technician
No building permits were ever issued while this guy owned the place, so basically we're looking for a room that shouldn't be here.

(The CSU technician leads Benson and Munch into the bathroom and lays some blueprints onto the counter)

CSU Technician
Tiles narrowed it down. According to the building plans...
(points to the wall in front of her)
this is supposed to be the exterior wall.

Benson
(cell phone rings)
Benson.

CSU Technician
Now, it's just a matter of x-raying the walls. Somebody's in there, we'll find them.

Benson
(hangs up her phone)
Cragen said that Abraham just lost his surveillance detail at Grand Central.

Munch
Could be anywhere now.

CSU Technician
(looking at the x-ray machine)
Detectives, come on over here.

(A close-up of the x-ray machine reveals the image of three fingers)
(Cut to a technician using a chainsaw to break through the wall. Munch moves a large piece of the wall aside and shines his flashlight into the hole, revealing a skeleton buried in cat litter)

Munch
Here's Johnny.

Benson
(kneels next to Munch and grabs a handful of the cat litter)
What is this sand?

CSU Technician
Kitty litter, to absorb the odor.

Munch
We better test for DNA to make sure this is John Kramer. There could be 25 bodies in these walls.

Benson
(Finds a wallet in the remains and pulls out a credit card with John Kramer's name on it)
It's him. It's John Kramer.

Munch
Yeah, somebody better tell Sarah or Cindy or whatever her name is. She thinks he left her.

Benson
(sarcastically)
I wonder who told her that.

(Cut to Benson sitting at a table at Riker's with Sarah/Cindy and her lawyer)

Benson
(Tosses the wallet onto the table in front of Sarah/Cindy)
Recognize that? Cindy...

(Sarah/Cindy looks up at Benson, startled)

Sarah/Cindy's Attorney
Her name is Sarah, Detective...Get your cases straight.

Benson
(points to the wallet)
It belonged to John, your husband. The one you said abandoned you ten years ago.

(Sarah/Cindy is obviously confused. She picks up the wallet and looks at it)

Benson
(Throws some pictures on the table in front of Sarah/Cindy)
This is what's left of him. He was shot in the back of the head and buried in the wall in the house where you lived.

Sarah/Cindy's Attorney
You're accusing my client of murder?

Benson
No. Just of being stupid. And gullible. You know, it's interesting how Abraham only surrounds himself with women and girls. There's no men anywhere. I wonder if he didn't like the competition.

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
(Teary-eyed, shakes her head)
No.

Benson
No? He killed your husband. The father of your child. What exactly does he have to do for you to stop defending him?

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
Abraham told me...that John fell in love with another woman. And I believe him.

Benson
(Holds an evidence bag containing John's wedding ring in front of Sarah/Cindy)
He was wearing it when he died.
(throws it onto the table)

(Sarah/Cindy picks it up and starts to cry)

Sarah/Cindy's Attorney
What do you want from her?

Benson
Abraham was last seen at Grand Central Station. He's going to wherever he's keeping Melanie. Now, she's gonna have her baby, he's gonna get his hands on her trust fund, and then your daughter is dead. Where are they?

Sarah/Cindy's Attorney
What are you offering?

Benson
A chance to do the right thing for Melanie. Something you've never done her entire life.

Sarah/Cindy's Attorney
That's not good enough.

Sarah/Cindy Kramer
(still clutching her husband's wedding ring)
Up north. This warehouse.

(Cut to squad cars pulling up at a warehouse. A team of officers go into the warehouse with Benson leading. Benson motions for them to go in one direction. Officer Zermeño stays to back her up)

(Benson and Zermeño stop at a window and see Melanie sleeping on a bed. They go over to the door)

Benson
(looks at Zermeño to see if he is ready)
Okay.
(she opens the door and they rush in with guns drawn)

Benson
(checks to see if the room is clear before going to the bed where Melanie is now sitting)
Melanie...Are you okay? I'm gonna take you someplace safe, alright?

Officer Zermeño
(sees Abraham through a window walking towards the room carrying a bag of groceries)
He's comin'.

(Benson gets up and points her gun at the door)

Officer Zermeño
Don't move! Put the bag down!

(Abraham puts the bag down and puts his hands in the air)

Officer Zermeño
Walk towards me! Stop!

(Abraham complies; Zermeno starts to cuff him)

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
(looks at Melanie)
They're gonna take you away. They're gonna kill your baby.

Benson
It's over, Eugene. You see, you can't control her anymore.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Come on, darlin. Come on.

Benson
Get him outta here!

(a shot is fired, hitting Zermeño's leg — he goes down; Benson turns to see Melanie with a gun in her hands)

Officer on Radio
Who's shooting, Zermeño?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Don't answer that!

Benson
(turns to Melanie with her gun still drawn)
Listen to me, sweetheart. I know you didn't mean to do that.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
(pointing at Benson)
Tell her to shut up.

Melanie Kramer
Shut up.

Benson
Sweetheart, listen to me.

Melanie Kramer
(yelling)
Shut up!

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
What you gonna do, Detective. Gonna shoot a pregnant child?

Benson
(turns and points her gun at Abraham)
You son of a bitch.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
(Sees Zermeño pulling himself towards the door)
Don't do that, officer. She already shot you once.

Officer on Radio
We're comin' in. You copy?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Tell them to stay back, or she'll kill you both.
(yelling)
Do it!

Melanie Kramer
(points her gun at Benson, frightened)
I'll kill you.

Officer on Radio
Detective Benson, respond.

Benson
Okay. Okay.
(Responds to the officer on the radio)
Everybody stay back. I repeat, stay back.

Officer on Radio
We copy. All units stand down.

Benson
(turns to Melanie)
Melanie, I need you to listen to me, okay? I need you to let Officer Zermeño go.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
No. No, Melanie.

Benson
Melanie, look at him. He's bleeding and he's very sick and he needs a doctor, okay. Now I promise you, I'm gonna stay in here with you, okay? You and me. I'm gonna stay right with you.

(Melanie nods)

Benson
(keeps her gun pointed at Melanie)
Get outta here, Z.

Officer Zermeño
No way. I'm not leaving you alone with these guys.

Benson
(yelling)
Get out of here now, Officer! (Zermeño pulls himself out of the room)

Benson
(turns and points her gun at Abraham)
So, what's your plan now, Eugene?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
(looks at Benson, then turns to Melanie)
Everything I predicted has come true. Do you believe now?

Benson
He's lying, Melanie.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
They tried to destroy us, but we're strong in the Lord.

Benson
Melanie, listen to me, do you know how I found you?

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
She's working for Satan.

Benson
Your mother told me where you were. Because she wants me to get you away from him.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Melanie, no.

Benson
Melanie, he killed your father.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
All who believe will rise again, so says the Lord.

Benson
He killed him for his money. That's all he cares about, sweetheart. He does not care about you.

Melanie Kramer
(crying)
You're a liar! He gave me a baby!

Benson
Melanie, I'm sorry. And I know this is very hard to hear. Because he was supposed to take care of you. But he made you do things that you didn't want to do.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
She's lying Melanie. You know I'm telling you the truth.

Benson
He hurt you.
(points her gun at Abraham)
And he knew what he was doing was wrong.

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Now, you listen to both of us very carefully, sweetheart. She says she's telling you the truth. But you know me. I've loved you, and I've cared for you, and I've taught you all your life. Now you have to decide which one of us is telling the truth.

Benson
No, Melanie!

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
And the liar must be punished.

Benson
(pointing her gun at Abraham)
You do not take another step!

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Or what, you'll shoot me?
(yelling)
You'll kill me! Do you see the evil, Melanie! Shoot her!

Benson
No! No, Melanie! No!

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
(yelling)
Shoot her, Melanie!

Benson
No, Melanie! No!

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
Shoot her! Come on! All these men have come to kill me!

Benson
Shut your mouth, Eugene!

Abraham /Eugene Hoff
(yelling)
Why?! Because they know. They know that I am greater than man! I am greater than God! And they're afraid of what I can do!

(a shot is fired and Abraham falls to the ground; Melanie is holding the gun and sobbing)

Benson
(walks slowly towards Melanie and takes the gun from her)
Melanie, it's okay. It's okay, honey. It's okay. Put the gun down. It's okay.
(she hugs and comforts Melanie)
It's okay. It's okay. It's okay.

Melanie Kramer
That was a lie.

Benson
What was?

Melanie Kramer
He said he was greater than God. But nobody is.

(Benson holds her closer)

(Scene fades)
